12/25 Entrepreneur Engineering as Fundamental for Business Innovation with Technology 石綿 宏
It is a bit surprise that it has passed 20 years since Prof. Kano started talking about “Entrepreneur Engineering”. Its concept spread out to entire Japan in many ways, especially paying more attention on business innovation with technology, not just technology.
Taking Semiconductor Industry as an example, it is also changing a lot, originally Technology was everything, new technology realized significant contribution, now we can put lots of pictures, music, video on tiny Flash memory chip.
Still advanced technology is important, but in coming years, IOT will bring a bit different picture for our business, more focus on “customer value creation”. We need to watch carefully what is real issue with our customers. We will have variety of tools which can make anything possible. One interesting change is, Semiconductor users, such as Google and Apple started developing Semiconductor devices to meet their special requirement precisely and timely. This is good indication that all parties including customers, suppliers, technology partners and academia need to work together for better solution. And this is one of important concept of “Entrepreneur Engineering” where real business innovation happens with technology. And it is great that Prof. Kano hit this point 20 years ago.
